88-Keys Drops a Best Seller

6 11 2008

20081105-keys1188-Keys’ album The Death of Album dropped today in streaming format over at imeem.  This is his debut cd, but 88-Keys has around for a minute, producing records for Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Beanie Siegel, and most recently, Consequence.

Most notably, he produced Macy Gray’s fourth single, Why Didn’t You Call Me, off her multi-platinum On How Life Is. But if you want a real treat, hit up his piano-backed Thieves in the Night, off the first Blackstar album.

The Death of Adam, Streamed from imeem

I’ll have an official review out soon, but my knee-jerk reaction is that this is one sick concept for a debut.  The Death of Adam is not so much a hip-hop album, but a musical book on tape.  If that makes any type of sense.  The cd takes the listener through the life story of Adam, the type of person any guy can identify with.

The songs combine with a slick narrative to spin a cautionary tale about the power of women and lust.  I don’t want to say anymore, just give it a listen.
